When we made the decision to add a two story addition including two additional full baths, gut, expand and remodel our kitchen as well as renovate our entire first floor and redo the flooring throughout the entire dwelling we knew it would be a huge project. We started interviewing remodeling contractors and couldn’t help but feel that we weren’t looking in the right place. Cue McNaughton Homes…..based on a referral that that McNaughton not only builds new homes but does additions and remodeling of existing homes including kitchens and baths we decided to check not only them but several “builders” in the area as well. Our initial response from McNaughton was timely and efficient. We still were not quite aware of just how big this project was but they walked us through everything from the initial design, all of the changes (and I made a lot of changes) all the way through the building process to the final details. The entire process beginning with excavation for the addition, gutting of our entire first floor and removal of existing walls including portions of an exterior exposed basement wall, drywalling and painting 1000’s of sq ft, new HVAC system, new flooring throughout the entire existing home and installation of a brand new custom kitchen took only 5 months. We lived in the home during construction and renovation so we witnessed the workmanship and attention to detail at every level, from every subcontractor and the the foreman, Gene Sowers…..cannot say enough about his professionalism and expertise.
Now, any business can be great when things are going well but you get the true integrity of a company when things don’t go exactly as planned. With a project this size, dealing with an existing structure you are bound to have things that don’t go as planned. Of course we had several. What I will say is that McNaughton Homes and all of their subcontractors stepped up at every stage, with any issue and handled it professionally and much to our satisfaction.
